Fairtrade Fortnight 2016

Posted March 07 2016

"Before you finish eating breakfast
in the morning, you've depended on
more than half of the world." ~ Martin Luther King

The Fairtrade Fortnight website opens with this quote. It goes on to list the names that farmers across the globe call the season where they cannot grow enough to feed their families.

The Times of Silence, The Seasons of Hunger, The Thin Months...

Fairtrade gives back to those who work tirelessly to feed people they'll never meet, and will still struggle to support their families as a result. To know that you're one failed crop away from bankruptcy and disaster is a life-dominating anxiety. Fairtrade secures a appropriate price for a decent product. And the Fairtrade Fortnight 2016 pledge is a fine way to support the movement.

It's very simple. Click here to pledge to use a Fairtrade product for your breakfast tomorrow morning. It's simple things: coffee, tea, cocoa, bananas. Simple things that keep us, and others thousands of miles away, fed.

You'll even get a free E-book of Fairtrade recipes with it. That's neat.

On our part, the Organic Deli Cafe will offer our chocolate and banana bread with a hot drink for £3.50 until the 13th of March. All of these ingredients are registered Fairtrade, and will continue to be as long as we are baking.
